Research: Computational Rnomics

Our lab's main research area is computational RNomics. This means we use computers to study the fascinating RNA molecules. These widely diverse molecules are involved in multiple aspects of gene expression and regulation. They can encode protein coding genes (mRNA), act as independent non-coding genes (tRNA, rRNA, miRNA) or form functional motifs in larger genes (riboswitches, UTR regulatory elements). Our laboratory is interested in different aspects of the RNA world. We develop bioinformatics tools to identify noncoding RNAs in genomic sequences and analyze their function. We also study post-transcriptional variations that affect polyadenylation and splicing patterns in eukaryotic mRNAs.
